The Red Cedar Environmental Institute is a middle-school alternative for students in the Chetek area. In this project-based learning environment, students in 6th, 7th, & 8th grades have the opportunity to excel beyond traditional classroom learning. During the school day students are engaged in a combination of teacher-directed projects and student-directed projects. All subjects are typically incorporated into projects, however, students use a computer driven math program to ensure mastery of math skills. Students can also learn Spanish using Rosetta Stone.
Research repeatedly shows that to be successful in today’s world students need to develop 21st Century Skills like critical thinking, communication, and collaboration. The Red Cedar Environmental Institute was designed around giving students opportunities to build these skills. In addition, our students become fluent with many types of technology. Each student has a laptop with access to information via the internet at almost any time.
The Red Cedar Environmental Institute is a free public school located within the Chetek-Weyerhaeuser Middle School building. Students enrolled in the Red Cedar Environmental Institute are able to participate in band, choir, and after-school sports with the C-W Middle School. Students who live outside of the Chetek-Weyerhaeuser Area School District should contact the district office to learn more about open enrollment opportunities.
